Card Table duplication

Rebuilt the same board again this week?

Same columns, same starter cards, every new client and every new sprint. Basecamp has no way to duplicate a card table, so someone rebuilds it by hand. Assistant clones the whole thing in one click.

A real clone, not an empty shell.

Copying column names is the easy 10%. The value is in the cards, and everything attached to them.

Cards, comments, attachments

Every card comes across with its comment thread and files. Checklists of starter tasks, briefs pinned to cards, all of it survives the copy.

Resume interrupted copies

Big table, closed laptop, dropped connection. Progress is tracked, so a paused copy picks up where it stopped instead of starting from card one.

Column copy and move

Sometimes you don't need the whole board. Copy or move a single column, with its cards, into another table.

Where it earns its keep

Made for repeating workflows.

If a board only ever exists once, you'll rarely need this. The teams that use it weekly are the ones running the same process again and again:

  • Agencies spinning up the same onboarding board per client
  • Teams that start each sprint from a template table
  • Recurring launches, audits, and checklists that live as cards
  • Anyone who keeps one "master" table as the source of copies

Duplication questions, answered.

Can Basecamp duplicate a card table on its own? +

No. Basecamp can copy a whole project as a template, which is great for new projects, but a single card table has no duplicate option. If you run the same board per client or per sprint inside one project, you rebuild it by hand. That's the gap Assistant closes.

What exactly gets copied? +

The table's columns and cards, including each card's comments and attachments. You get a working copy of the whole board, not an empty skeleton with the same column names.

What if the copy gets interrupted? +

Large tables take a while, and browsers get closed. Assistant tracks progress and lets you resume a paused copy instead of starting over.

Can I copy just one column? +

Yes. Columns have their own copy and move actions, so you can lift a single column into another table without duplicating everything.

Do teammates see the copy? +

Yes. The duplicate is created in Basecamp itself, so everyone sees the new table whether they have the extension or not.

What does it cost? +

Duplication is part of the one plan: $29/month or $290/year for your whole Basecamp account, unlimited users. 7-day free trial, no credit card.
